KAPURTHALA: Two free-throw conversions with two seconds left helped Jharkhand boys beat last year’s runner-up Chhattisgarh 36-35 in a group ‘B’ league match of the 35th National sub-junior basketball championship here on Sunday. Akash Nayak top-scored for Jharkhand which led 21-17 at half-time, but trailed by one point at the end of the third quarter (28-29) and also 34-35 two seconds before the final hooter. Ajay Partap kept Chhattisgarh’s hopes alive with 16 points. The results: Boys: Jharkhand bt Chhattisgarh 36-35; T.N. bt M.P. 53-46; Rajasthan bt Gujarat 59-6. Girls: Chhattisgarh bt Gujarat 80-5; M.P. bt Rajasthan 29-18; Jharkhand bt Kerala 35-16.
