‘Implement Act to protect senior citizens’

HYDERABAD: Senior citizens can be safeguarded from abuse and neglect if the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 is implemented in letter and spirit by the respective State governments, Justice B. Subhashan Reddy, Chairman, State Human Rights Commission, has said.

He was the chief guest at a round table discussion organised by Heritage Foundation on the occasion of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. He emphasised the need for framing the rules, constituting tribunals and entrusting them with suo motu powers besides spreading awareness about the Act.
