Sri Lankan film festival opens

HYDERABAD: The Sri Lankan Film Festival ‘Sixty years of Sri Lankan Cinema’ being organised by Hyderabad Film Club in collaboration with Sri Lankan High Commission, got off to fine start at Sarathi Studios here on Saturday.

Information and Public Relations Department Special Commissioner C. Parthasarathy inaugurated the festival which began with the screening of film Sooriya Arana directed by Somaratna Dissanayake.

He said the film festival would give insights into Sri Lankan way of life.

Felicitated

He also felicitated National Film Award winners and Nandi Award winners for 2006 including K.N.T. Sastry producer of Kamli, which bagged national award for Best Regional Film – Telugu, Satish of Hope best film on social awareness and Bhargava and Satya of Kittu, best animation film.

The film festival will be on till June 22 with screening at Sarathi Studios daily at 6.30 p.m.
