HYDERABAD: The United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) and Academic Staff College (ASC) of University of Hyderabad (UoH) conducted the Fulbright mentoring workshop at the university campus on Saturday. “The objective of the workshop is to provide detailed information about the application process for the scholarships, which is slightly complex,” said Janaka Pushpanathan, Regional Officer, USEFI. Honorary Director of ASC Prof. Ramabramham said that the fellowships provide opportunity for students, researchers, teachers and professionals to pursue graduate, research and professional development programmes in various disciplines. Mohan G. Ramanan, Professor and the Dean, School of Humanities, said that Fulbright scholars should not only study and conduct research in US universities, but also represent India as goodwill ambassadors. Former Fulbright scholars C. Suvarna, Pramod K. Nayar and Kalpana Sastry gave their suggestions for potential applicants. ‘Be accurate’Dr. Suvarna, Director of A.P. Forest Academy, said that preparation and presentation of application should be accurate and advised candidates to choose areas where one had experience in. She asked candidates to answer all the questions in the application form within the given word limit in clear language. Pramod K. Nayar, an English Literature lecturer at UoH, emphasised that a good proposal should have proper background, objective, method and methodology, statement of significance and the justification to stay in US for the programme they were applying for. Kalpana Sastry, principal scientist at National Academy of Agricultural Management, said that presentation of the proposal should be able to state the passion of the candidate. The USEFI is inviting applications from candidates for 2009-10.
