Chief Minister draws flak

HYDERABAD: The TDP has claimed that the shortage of fertilizer in the State was a common feature in all Congress governments. The TD Rajya Sabha member M.V. Mysoora Reddy and former Minister C. Muthyam Reddy alleged at a news conference here on Saturday that the Congress was always hostile towards the agriculture sector. While the previous Telugu Desam regime offered 50 per cent subsidy to farmers on seed, the Congress regime not only failed to give any subsidy but withdrew the Rytu Mitra scheme.

They criticised Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for holding a video conference with Collectors on Saturday to discuss the supply of seed and fertilizer in districts.

The step should have been taken two months ago in anticipation of adverse market conditions. Instead, the government woke up to the situation when the farmers were agitated due to the shortage.
