HYDERABAD: ‘Fixed day health clinics’ will be launched by the government in villages across the State next month as part of its ‘104’ service, Health Minister Sambhani Chandrasekhar said here on Saturday. Mobile teams would visit villages on specific days and hold clinics to treat non-emergency cases. During each visit, they will cover a population of about 1,500 in habitations that are three-km away from Primary Health Centres (PHCs). These clinics constitute the second phase of ‘104’, the health information helpline and telemedicine service, launched last year. The Minister was addressing the valedictory function of the three-week-long induction training for the newly recruited medical officers of PHCs. This is the first batch of 150 officers out of over 1,100 medical graduates recruited to the PHCs in December to undergo the training in various institutes here. Mr. Chandrasekhar said that the 104 service and Rajiv Arogyasri, the health insurance scheme for poor, would be extended to all districts by October 2. He asserted that there was no shortage of drugs in PHCs and government hospitals. L.V. Subrahmanyam, Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, appealed to the medical officers to resist temptations to earn money through corrupt means. There were bound to be temptations which would be fuelled by their own subordinate staff. D. Ramesh Chandra, Director, Health, also spoke.
