Varun beats Vishal

HYDERABAD: T. Varun defeated Vishal Reddy 7-3 in the boys’ under-10 quarterfinals of the fourth Twin Cities mini junior tennis tournament, organised by Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, at the Fateh Maidan tennis complex here on Friday.

The results (quarterfinals):

Girls: Under-10: S. Nidhi bt M. Sai Dyuti 7-4; Raveena Reddy bt Abeer Fatima 7-1; P. Jahnavi Reddy bt S. Mansi Reddy 7-0; Gayatri Reddy bt Tahoora Shaikh 7-1.

Nikhat is champion

Nikhat Bhanu of Gujarati Seva Mandal won the junior girls’ title defeating M. Harshitha of Anand Nagar Welfare Association Academy 11-2, 11-1, 11-5, 11-4 in the final of the GHMC annual table tennis tournament at the Victory Playground indoor hall here.

Gymkhana in semifinals

Gymkhana defeated Valluvarnagar 2-0 to enter the semifinals of the Sachdev Sports Cup inter-summer coaching centres football tournament, organised by Shastri Soccer Club, at Trimulgherry Village Grounds here.

Winger Prashant scored both goals off passes from schemer Alloysius.

In another match, Trimulgherry Village ‘A’ put it across Central Battery 5-3, via the tie-breaker. Rahul of TVG scored an own goal but Yogesh soon scored the equaliser.

In the tie-breaker, Servin, Rahul, Anuj and Sashank were successful for the winner, while Suri and Vikas were on target for Central Battery.

Women’s hockey

The eighth South India hockey championship for women will be held in Dharmavaram from June 14 to 17 with Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala taking part, according to A. Prasanna Kumar Reddy, general secretary of AP Women’s Hockey Association.

The event will be organised in a round-robin league format with the top two teams playing the final.

Trophy shared

Cantonment Area Sports Club and Young Hyderabad were declared joint winners of the B-division super league hockey championship after the teams were locked 1-1 in the final at AOC Grounds.

In the first half, CASC took the lead in the 18th minute through Suresh off a cross from G. Sharath while Ahmed of Young Hyderabad scored the equaliser just before the break.

HGA camp

Hyderabad Golf Association (Golconda) will organise a coaching camp from June 19 to 28 at its premises for students, juniors and seniors under the supervision of G. S. Krishnan, a qualified coach from the Indian National Golf Academy, according to Capt. B. L. K. Reddy, joint-secretary of the Association.
