TIRUCHI: Taking its technology partnership with Nissinbho, Japan, to newer heights, Rane Brake Lining (RBL), the flagship company of the Rane Group, got its most modern asbestos-free disc pad plant inaugurated at Sethurapatti village in the district, on Friday.

Attuned to international benchmarks for manufacturing, the highlight of the Rs. 60-crore facility, established with 10 per cent equity holding by Nissinbho, is the installation of computerised quality tracking system through which quality is monitored in the line of manufacture right from raw materials to finished product.

There was zero probability for defective products to reach customers, L. Ganesh, Chairman, Rane Group, said.

With India transforming into a global hub for manufacturing, the new facility was envisaged as a platform for export.

Customers worldwide look for sophisticated braking performance, and the efficacy had to be increased in accordance with rapid changes in technology, Mr. Ganesh said addressing a press conference.

The company plans to manufacture ten million units annually in various phases out of its state-of-the-art facility, and ramp up the combined output of its plants at Ambattur, Hyderabad, Puducherry, and the new facility to 20 million units by 2012-13. Likewise, exports would be scaled up to 15 per cent by then from eight per cent at present, P. S. Rao, President, RBL, said.

With improved capability, RBL will maintain leadership position and match customer expectations in terms of quality and cost, Mr. Ganesh said during the inaugural ceremony that followed.

Inaugurating the new facility, S. Maitra, Executive Director and Managing Executive Officer (Supply Chain), said that Indian auto and auto component industries were passing through an interesting phase.

Due to stiff global competition, auto industry would look for sourcing world-class components at competitive cost, Mr. Maitra said.

The new facility emphasises on poka yoke (mistake proofing) in all manufacturing processes to ensure defect-free products to our customers, D. Bheemsingh Melchisedec, Plant Head, said.

L. Lakshman, Executive Chairman, Rane Holdings; S. Viji, Managing Director, Brakes India, and representatives of Nissinbho, Japan, were present at the inauguration function.
