CHENNAI: The 56th Tamil Nadu State FIDE-rated chess championship will be held at the Hall of Chess, Nehru Stadium, from June 16 to 25. This was announced by S. Balaraman, secretary of Vishy Anand Chess Academy, which is organising the event, at a press conference here on Thursday. Four players from each district association affiliated to the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association (TNSCA) and two from affiliated academies can participate in the event. Registration can be done through TNSCA or the Vishy Anand Academy, and the last date for entries is June 15. D.V. Sundar, secretary of the All India Chess Federation, said that around 200-250 entries were expected this year. Manuel Aaron, secretary of the TNSCA and 12-time winner of the championship, said International Masters G.B. Prakash, R.R. Laxman and defending champion S.P. Sethuraman would be taking part. The top four rankers in the tournament will represent Tamil Nadu in the National ‘B’ championships to be held at Goa in September. — Sports Reporter
