Three held for dowry harassment
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: The Adyar women police on Wednesday arrested three women and are searching for a man in a case of dowry harassment.
The arrests were effected, following a complaint lodged by Sukanya (23) with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Adyar) on Tuesday.
A resident of Royapuram in Chennai, Sukanya has been married to Ananthamurthy for two years. As Ananthamurthy worked on a ship, Sukanya lived with her in-laws in Puducherry. Her husband’s two sisters and mother allegedly harassed her asking her to bring money from her parents. Following a continued harassment, Sukanya’s father had brought the couple to Chennai and helped them set up a house in Thiruvanmiyur. But the family members continued to harass Sukanya, who, in her complaint, alleged that she was often locked up and not given food. On Tuesday, her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law were arrested. Police are on the look out for Ananthamurthy.
