Science at work: Corporation schools in north Chennai evince interest in the displays at the Ramanujam Museum and Math Education Centre in Royapuram, where a science camp got under way on Wednesday. CHENNAI: Science City on Wednesday launched a three-day special science camp for students studying in higher secondary classes of four Corporation schools in north Chennai. Experts would present lectures and participate in interactive sessions on a range of topics, including nano technology, genetics, physics, astronomy and mathematics. School Education Secretary M. Kutralingam, who inaugurated the camp, said students of Tamil medium too had plenty of career opportunities. In the face of competition from English medium students, they should not lose heart, he added. “Opportunities aplenty”Science City vice chairman V. Varaprasada Rao said job opportunities were aplenty in emerging fields such as genetics and bio-technology. He said such camps were aimed at increasing the students’ appetite for science. The Science City planned to conduct similar camps for students in rural areas. “We have written to the District Collector of Tiruvallur for conducting camps there,” he added. Live demonstrations also formed part of the camp, being held at the Ramanujam Museum and Math Education Centre in Royapuram. Eighty students participating in the programme would receive participation certificates.
