Retired teachers to be reappointed

Guidelines being framed for the purpose

19 degree, 8 junior and 8 polytechnics to be set up
They will join new degree, junior and polytechnic colleges

HYDERABAD: Retired teachers of government degree and junior colleges and polytechnics will now be reappointed without technically getting any extension of their service for a period of two years.

The government is working out on the guidelines for such re-appointments. Requisitioning the services of retired teachers has become necessary due to the establishment of 19 degree and eight junior colleges, apart from eight polytechnics from this academic year.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Minister for Higher and Technical Education R. Chenga Reddy said the reappointments would be based on the needs of colleges and capabilities of the individuals.

Direct recruitment

The Minister also said that direct recruitment of teachers to fill the regular vacancies in the degree/junior colleges and polytechnics through Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission would be taken up. Notification had already been issued covering 1,000 teaching posts. Another notification would be issued shortly to fill 4,300 teacher posts in junior colleges, 1,300 posts in degree colleges, and 487 in polytechnics.

In a slew of measures to promote technical education, the government sought the clearance from All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to allow second shift in engineering colleges for polytechnics, offer incentives to private polytechnics and permit quotas for managements and industries.

Education complex

Mr. Reddy announced that an Education Complex would be constructed here to serve as an umbrella facility to accommodate all State offices relating to education.

The complex would have conference-halls and training facilities.
