Seniors proved wrong: YSR

They advised Congress not to field candidates in bypolls

All seats contested were represented by the TRS

NREGS works to be taken up from March to May

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that the outcome of the byelections has proved wrong the party seniors, who have cautioned the party against fielding candidates against the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS).

“How could we shy away from the elections and leave the field open for the others parties to contest,” Dr. Reddy reportedly questioned at the first Cabinet meeting after the bypolls here on Wednesday. He made this remark in an indirect reference to the party seniors’ advice against fielding candidates in the byelections as all these seats were represented by the TRS.

The Cabinet complimented Dr. Reddy for the party’s performance and placed on record how his campaign saw party nominees winning in constituencies, which were never won in the last two decades.

Performance lauded

Performance of Roads and Buildings Minister T. Jeevan Reddy, who almost defeated the TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao from Karimnagar parliamentary seat, came in for appreciation.

The Chief Minister referred to the margin of victory which came down from over two lakhs to a mere 15,000. One Minister is understood to have said the TRS chief should be thanked for giving the Congress a chance to prove its standing among the voters. Effort of the Mines and Geology Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy in wresting the Vikarabad seat was hailed.

Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminaryana suggested that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme works should be taken up only during March, April and May so that the farmers would not face problems in getting farm labourers during the peak agriculture season.
