NEW DELHI: The African National Congress (ANC) and the Indian National Congress (INC) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further enhance the “historic” ties between the two. This is the first time that the Congress has signed an MoU with any party in the world, said Karan Singh, chief of the party’s Foreign Cell. The memorandum, signed by ANC president Jacob G. Zuma and Congress president Sonia Gandhi here, lays emphasis on South-South cooperation and collaboration in several areas. It agrees to set up an institutional mechanism to facilitate regular exchanges between the Indian Youth Congress and the ANC Youth League; the Mahila Congress and the ANC Women’s League; and the Indian National Trade Union Congress and the Congress of South African Trade Unions. The Congress will receive the first delegation of youth and women from South Africa later this year. The areas of mutual cooperation and exchange for youth include organisational structures, policy conferences, leadership development and training camps, employment generation schemes, health and food security, equitable and sustainable development and regional and global developments of strategic importance.
