NEW DELHI: A court here on Monday rejected the bail plea of sacked Education Minister of Assam Ripon Bora, who was arrested on June 3 for allegedly trying to bribe a CBI officer probing a murder case in which the Minister was a suspect. His co-accused Ramesh Maheshwari’s bail plea was also rejected. Rejecting the bail pleas, Special Judge S.P. Garg said he was not in a position to grant bail considering the gravity of the offence. Third accusedAlthough he had filed an application on Saturday to move a bail plea on Monday, the third accused , journalist Mukul Pathak, did not move his bail plea. Mr. Pathak was arrested on the same day at the Guwahati Airport and brought here on transit remand. The CBI had alleged that he had assured Mr. Bora that he would be able to broker a deal with the investigating officer of the case and bail him out. Earlier, while arguing for his client, defence counsel I.U. Khan told the court that the CBI did not have any evidence against Mr. Bora and that it had not investigated the case properly. He said the Minister had been cooperating with the CBI and that he did not ask for any favour from its officers.
