MoU for stronger Congress-ANC ties

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: To further strengthen the historic ties between India and South Africa, the Indian National Congress and the African National Congress will sign a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday.

The decision was taken after a meeting between the visiting ANC president, Jacob Zuma, and Congress president Sonia Gandhi here.

After delegation-level talks on Tuesday, the two sides will sign the agreement on South-South cooperation.

“We are signing an MoU tomorrow. The relations between the two organisations are historical and had started many, many decades ago,” Mr Zuma said at an interactive session with industry. He said the two organisations were among the oldest in the world. The INC had supported the ANC a great deal in its struggle against apartheid. Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said the discussions between Mr. Zuma and Ms. Gandhi covered a wide range of issues.
