Workers arrested
KARUR: A total of 163 motor operators and sanitary workers attached to village panchayats were arrested when they tried to lay siege to the Taluk Office here on Monday to highlight their demands. They wanted consolidated pay of Rs. 3000 a month, fixation of service rule, one day off in week, dispersal of salaries by the 5th of every month, pension of Rs. 1000, etc,. The District Village Panchayat Employees Association, affiliated to the CITU, organised the demonstration. The association treasurer K. Kandasamy, secretary N. Raju, and CITU district secretary G. Jeevanandam participated.
