Scholarship scheme

NAMAKKAL: The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs has launched a pre-metric scholarship scheme for students belonging to minority communities studying in government and private schools.

The objective of the scheme is to encourage parents from minority communities to send their children to school, minimise their financial burden on education and sustain their efforts to support their children to complete school education.

A total of 15,340 students in Tamil Nadu (7,320 Muslims, 7,980 Christians, 20 Sikhs and 20 Buddhists) would be given scholarships this fiscal, a press release said.

Students studying in government, aided and recognised private schools in are eligible for the scholarship. Students can obtain more information about the scheme and application form in the website www.minorityaffairs.gov.in.

The filled in application forms should be submitted to the respective heads of the schools by June 30.
