Appeal to government

CHENNAI: Plastic raw material prices have gone up by five times within the last month causing great difficulty to small and micro plastics industries in the State. This has resulted in large-scale unemployment in the plastics units in the State, a press release from the Chennai Plastics Manufacturers and Merchants Association (CHEPMMA) has said.

CHEPMMA said current measures helped only big industries and it had requested the government to remove customs duty and import duty on plastic raw materials and encourage small and micro units by increasing the duty on exports by big industries. — Special Correspondent
