Exhibition on agriculture

PUDUKOTTAI: A five-day seminar-cum-exhibition on “Agriculture and farmers’ development” to benefit farmers of six districts will be held under the auspices of the Agricultural Technology and Management Agency (ATMA) here from June 10.

Experts and scientists from Tamil Nadu Agriculture University; Tamil Nadu Veterinary Animal Sciences University and other research stations will deliver special lecture on a wide range of topics including pre-cropping strategy, sericulture, inland fishing, value-added agricultural produce and agricultural technology at the seminar.

Practical sessions to clarify farmers’ doubts will form the salient feature of the sessions, the Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar said in a press release issued here on Sunday.

The exhibition, comprising a total of 65 stalls, would be on various modernised agricultural implements from various firms; food processing units; products made by women members of self-help groups; government departments and banks.

Cash prizes will be given to encourage the best farming practices, horticultural innovations and livestock protection measures.

Farmers from Pudukottai, Tiruchi, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam would benefit through the seminar and expo to be inaugurated by the State Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam at the District Supply and Marketing Society campus, the Collector said.
