‘Will urge Centre to reduce LPG price’

CHIKMAGALUR: D.K. Taradevi Siddartha, former Union Minister, said here on Friday that the State Government should join hands with the Union Government in easing the burden of the sharp rise in the prices of petroleum products.
Addressing a press conference, Ms. Siddartha called upon the State Government to adopt innovative measures and reduce taxes.
Ms. Siddartha said she would urge the Union Government to reduce the price of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders.
With regard to fertilizer crisis in the State, she said the Government should specify the steps it had taken to overcome the problem.
She urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to procure the required quantity of fertilizers immediately to avert an increase in suicides by farmers.
Pointing out that fertilizers would be beneficial only if applied at the correct time, she said coffee plantations in the district required large quantities of fertilizers.
Regretting that black-market had aggravated the problem, she stressed the need to overcome the crisis on a war footing.
