Medical camp for students today

They will be screened for heart ailments

SIVAKASI: Ninety nine school students who have been detected of having heart ailments would be screened at a special camp to be held here on Friday.

In a statement, the Deputy Director (Health), S. Balasubramanian, said that a team of Government medical officers led by Dr. M. Srinivasan, cardiologist of Vadamalayan Hospital, Madurai, will screen children for heart surgery at the camp to be held at Sri Kaleeswari College.

The students would undergo several tests, including X-ray and E.C.G., to decide on their medical condition. If anybody was found to be not fit for surgery, the student would be given medical treatment and medicines issued at the primary health centres. The camp process would be extended up to six months to complete the surgical correction of heart problem. The expenditure for the surgery would be borne by the State Government.

The Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, and the School Education Minister, Thangam Thennarsu, will participate in the camp.
