‘Country hit by liberalisation’

Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: Activists of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) took out a procession here on Friday protesting against the steep increase in prices of petrol, diesel and domestic cooking gas.

The protesters led by T.V.S. Raju, district convener of SUCI, raised slogans against the Union Government for increasing the prices of petrol and diesel, which they said would result in the escalation of prices of all other essential commodities.

Later, addressing the protesters, Mr. Raju said the country had been facing several problems on account of globalisation, privatisation and liberalisation.

The taxi and autorickshaw drivers’ associations and the All-India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) also joined SUCI in the protest.
