BANGALORE: Schools part of The Hindu’s Newspaper in Education programme have done exceedingly well in the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations conducted by various boards. However, authorities of some schools expressed disappointment as the results had gone against expectations. Many schools affiliated to the State Board said several students fared badly in mathematics and language papers, though all students had scored in the 90s in the revision as well as preparatory tests conducted from November to February. “Although 32 students of our school have passed with a first division, we were a bit disappointed when we learnt that five of them had failed in mathematics and language papers. These five students had fared well in the preparatory tests conducted earlier. We are in the process of analysing the results and seeking the help of experts,” said Uma Nagesh, principal of St. Martin’s High School, Magadi Road. Ms. Nagesh said the school reopened early last year and conducted a bridge course for students who were weak in a few subjects. Teachers completed the portions in November, and from thereon the focus was on revision. But, in the end, it seems all our efforts have not yielded the desired results,” she said. At St. John’s High School, Papareddy Palya, some students failed in Kannada. “We are glad that 56 students have passed with a first division, but are also disappointed that some of them have done badly in the language papers, especially Kannada. I think the writing skills of students is on the wane and it is a cause for concern. ” said headmistress Dakshayani.
