On court orders: Revenue officials and office-bearers of the Thiruvananthapuram Golf Club verifying the inventory of goods before the premises were returned to the management on Tuesday evening. — THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level meeting of Revenue Department officials, chaired by Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran, has decided to file an affidavit seeking reversal of the High Court order directing the return of the land and buildings of the Golf Club in Thiruvananthapuram, taken over by the government on Monday, to its management. The meeting also mooted engaging a senior counsel in place of government pleader D. Anil Kumar to argue the case. The Revenue Department is reportedly peeved by the court order requiring the Revenue Principal Secretary to be present in the court on June 9 and feels that this happened due to the failings on the part of the pleader. The Minister later held consultations with Law Secretary P.S. Gopinathan on the conduct of the case. Meanwhile, questions are being raised as to why the government did not resort to a smoother takeover of the club as it had nominees on its governing council. Meanwhile, the government on Tuesday returned the club to the management. Revenue authorities led by C.R. Krishnakumar arrived at the club by evening and returned the keys to the office-bearers after breaking open the seal on the door of the main pavilion. Club president P.M. Abraham and other office-bearers received the keys and the inventory of assets prepared by the Revenue officials. Earlier in the day, DYFI volunteers marched to the club demanding that the government retain the possession of the premises. Club members later expressed satisfaction over the government decision to return the premises.
