It wants any one of the three legislators to be made Minister

Shankarlinge Gowda was a contender for ministerial berth

MYSORE: A delegation of BJP leaders from the city will meet the party leadership in Bangalore on Tuesday to press for a ministerial berth to a legislator from Mysore.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, BJP’s Mysore city unit president B.P. Manjunath said the delegation would make out a case for a ministerial berth to one of the three legislators — H.S. Shankarlinge Gowda and S.A. Ramdas (MLAs) and Thontadarya, MLC.

Mysore has not found representation in the first-ever BJP Ministry in the State.

The delegation, which would be led by BJP MP for Mysore C.H. Vijayshankar, would meet State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

Mr. Shankarlinge Gowda has won from the Chamaraja Assembly constituency for the fourth successive time, and Mr. Ramdas has been elected from Krishnaraja.

Improper

However, Mr. Manjunath took exception to Mr Gowda’s outbursts after he did not figure in the list of Ministers, who were sworn in along with Mr. Yeddyurappa on Friday.

“Though all of us sympathise with Mr. Gowda, he should have refrained from reacting angrily. Such outbursts do not bode well for his political future. We wish he restrains himself and exercises patience,” Mr. Manjunath said.

He also sought to remind Mr. Gowda that no individual was above the party.

All partymen had worked for its growth, Mr. Manjunath said and thanked the voters of the city for electing two BJP MLAs.

He pointed out that Mr. Ramdas had won by a margin of nearly 20,000 votes. Mr. Thontadarya had been a loyal soldier of the party since the Jan Sangh days.

He was even elected councillor of the BJP in K.R. Nagar local body. Mr. Thontadarya was also imprisoned during the Emergency.

Hopeful

Mr. Manjunath expressed confidence that Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa would accommodate a legislator from Mysore in the Ministry soon.

“We would prefer a legislator from Mysore to be made Minister in charge of the district as it would ensure better coordination with party workers,” he added.
