SCR beats Sports Authority of India (STC) to claim title

HYDERABAD: South Central Railway defeated Sports Authority of India (STC) 4-2 in the ‘A’-1 super league hockey championship to emerge the champion at the Begumpet Police Stadium, here on Saturday.

SCR took the lead in the 15th minute through Mohd. Aleem who converted a penalty corner. However, SAI levelled the scores in the 20th minute when M. Sampath Kumar was on target. Soon, it took a 2-1 lead with K. Satyamaheshwar scoring off a penalty-corner.

In the latter half of the second session, SCR dominated and scored thrice through Mayur (two) and Mayank James (one) to clinch the issue.

In the ‘B’ division league at the AOC grounds, Republic Boys Company scored a 3-0 win over Boys Union with Shiv Kumar (one) and Sajith (two) being the scorers.

CCF loses in final

Best Cricket Academy (Bangalore) won the open category final defeating Cricket Coaching Foundation (Hyderabad) by 34 runs in the Imtiaz-Pepsi Cup all-India invitation cricket tournament in Bangalore.

Thirteen-year-old left-arm spinner, V.L. Sashank, who claimed a hat-trick in the league phase, and V. Vinay Uttam, who cracked 140 in a league match, both from CCF, were named “promising cricketers” and given mementoes.

The scores: Final: Open category: Best CA (Bangalore) 323 for nine in 45 overs (Stalin 142, Vinay 48, Jagdish 51, Benjamin Thomas four for 80) bt Cricket Coaching Foundation (Hyderabad) 289 (Abhishek 37, Sabrish 37, Dhanaji 56).

Special awards (CCF players): S. Nikhilesh (best batsman), Aamer (best fielder), Sabrish (best bowler).

Car rally team launched

Winspeed Motorsport, a Hyderabad-based firm, on Saturday launched its car rally team for the coming seven-round Indian National Rally Championship (INRC).

At a media conference jointly addressed by Vice President Sai Giridhar, its President Sravan Kumar K said the team’s ace duo in the group N category comprising G.B. Girijashankar Joshy in the 1600 cc and Mazdayar Vatcha in the 1400 would bring laurels to the team and the city.

Introducing the two top guns, he said Joshy had won two championships in the Rally Star Cup category in 2005 and in the 1400 cc in the following year. He was also adjudged the Indian National champion in the 1400 cc category in 2006. Mazdayar, a double National champion last year, won trophies in every form of motorsport.

Formed about four months ago, Winspeed Motorsport will use the expertise of Coimbatore’s experienced mechanics for the INRC that covers Mysore, Nashik, Bangalore, Cochin, Goa, Chandigarh and Chennai. Sravan thanked the sponsors viz; M.L.R Motors, Srinivasa Hatcheries Group and Promantra Synergy Solutions Ltd.. for their invaluable support to the cause.

Another term for Shivlal

N. Shivlal Yadav is all set to be re-elected as secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) for the third term, as after the last date of withdrawal of nominations on Saturday, he is the only one in the fray for the elections scheduled on June 8 when the AGM is also scheduled.

Also, it was clear on Saturday that the candidates for the other posts, including the committee members from the ‘A,’ ‘B,’ ‘C’ and ‘D’ division leagues, will also be elected unanimously.

List of office-bearers who happen to be the only candidates in the fray and who will be elected unanimously: Secretary: N. Shivlal Yadav; Joint Secretary: D.S. Chalapathi; Vice-Presidents: M.V. Sridhar, S.L. Venkatapathi Raju and Arshad Ayub; Treasurer: P. Yadgiri; EC members: ‘A’ division: E. Gopal, Amarnath, S. Venkateshwaran, Narender Goud, Syed Moizuddin; ‘B’ division: Bhanu Prasad and John Manoj; ‘C’ division: Surender Agarwal and Vijayanand; ‘D’ division: D. Narsing Rao and Srinivas Chakravarthy.
