TIRUCHI: Paramount Airways has taken steps to consolidate its position in the south. It has decided to introduce twice-a-day service on the Tiruchi-Chennai-Tiruchi sector from the second week of July. The airline is in the process of setting up its office at the airport here and will operate the 70-seater Jet Embraer aircraft initially, the Managing Director of Paramount Airways M. Thiagarajan told the media here on Saturday. Tiruchi has a big business potential with the presence of public sector undertakings and fabrication units in its vicinity. The decision of the State Government to set up an IT Park on the outskirts of the city has further enhanced the industrial importance of Tiruchi. “We have planned to tap the business potential taking advantage of the present favourable condition. We will introduce flights to Chennai from Tiruchi both in morning and evening hours. The airways has already got clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for the same.” The airways, which possesses five aircraft and operates 42 flights daily in eight sectors, hopes to get a good patronage not only from the people of Tiruchi district, but also from the industrialists of the textile town of Karur. Karur air travellers have usually preferred taking flights from Coimbatore to reach various destinations. Tiruchi being just 75 km away from Karur, the daily service might be alluring, he said. Besides passenger traffic, the airline is also eyeing the cargo traffic from the central districts. Every day, Paramount flights carried 50,000 kg of cargo and it would leave no stone unturned to tap this market too, he said. When asked about the fare structure, the MD said it would be on a par with other regular service carriers. The airways was examining the proposal of introducing flights to Mumbai, Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram from Tiruchi, he added.
