VS to inaugurate DNA Barcoding Centre

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) is planning to establish an industry linkage facility at the biotechnology research hub to come up at Puthenthope.

Executive vice-president of the council E.P. Yesodharan told reporters here that the biotechnology research hub would be developed into a world-class campus equipped with facilities including a DNA Barcoding Centre, instrumentation facility and an incubation centre for the development of new products.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan is scheduled to inaugurate the DNA Barcoding Centre on June 11.

Principal scientific officer R. Prakashkumar said the barcoding of zingiber and piper species endemic to the Western Ghats would be the first programme to be taken up by the centre. The Kerala School of Mathematics will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister in Kozhikode on June 3. He will lay the stone for a new campus for National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) here on June 4.
