Gujarat takes the step follows scandal
|
GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government has decided to do away with the system of internal markings in the teachers’ training colleges following the recent exposure of “sex for marks” scandal in the Patan PTC in Mehsana district in north Gujarat.
The decision was taken by the advisory committee for the education department after the Patan sex scandal rocked the State earlier this year requiring the national women’s commission and the national commission for the Scheduled Castes and Tribes to intervene.
The “sex for marks” scandal came to light after a Dalit girl fainted in the college campus in early February and medical examinations revealed that she was subjected to gang rape. The girl later revealed that six teachers had been raping her under the threat to fail her in internal assessment.
