Ball in Congress court: IUML

Kozhikode: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has asked the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to resolve the basic problems in the UDF in Malappuram.

Talking to mediapersons after a meeting of IUML leaders at the League House here on Saturday in the wake of the controversy linked to the statements of Aryadan Mohammed and his son Aryadan Shoukath, IUML State general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty said that there was no existing system of UDF in Malappuram.

“The problems in the UDF date back to the 1970s. This has been brought to the notice of the KPCC. The problems do not confine just to the statements of Aryadan Mohammed,” he said. The decision of the meeting, held in the absence of IUML State president Panakkad Muhammedali Shihab Thangal, was conveyed to KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, he said.

Mr. Kunhalikutty made it clear that his party did not wish to add to the controversies linked with the statements of Mr. Aryadan.

Issues to be discussed

Stating that the issues raised by the IUML would be considered seriously, Mr. Chennithala said in Alappuzha that all Congress leaders would be prohibited from making public statements on the Aryadan Mohammed-IUML issue. He said the issues raised by IUML would be sorted out through discussions within the UDF.
