Homeo institute to stay in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: The Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH), New Delhi, has reportedly deferred the plan to close down the Tirupati-based Clinical Research Unit (Homeopathy) and merge it with the Regional Research Institute, Gudiwada. The unit, established here in 1980, has successfully conducted research projects to treat filariasis, amoebiasis, vitiligo and cervicitis by administering Homeopathy medicine. Similar projects on treating chronic bronchitis, diabetic neuritis and prostrate hypertrophy are in the pipeline. Though not a regular hospital, the unit treats a good number of patients everyday.

Reorganisation

However, the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), functioning under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, had taken up a nation-wide reorganisation exercise to merge several Homeopathy units with the nearby ones to bring down their number and as well improve core competence. As part of the plan, the Tirupati unit was initially proposed to be merged with the regional institute in Gudiwada. But the department has now deferred the merger plan, understandably after recognising the Tirupati unit’s impressive performance on the research front, coupled with the non-availability of adequate accommodation at the Gudiwada campus. The research unit, situated in a building owned by the TTD here, is also bogged down with space constraints, with the latter planning to demolish the ramshackle structure and use it for its own purpose.
