Cheating case against Farookh Engineer

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad metropolitan court on Friday asked the city police to investigate a complaint by a textile manufacturer of cheating by the former cricketer, Farookh Engineer.

The Ahmedabad-based Neptune Exim company alleged that over Rs. 48 lakh was overdue from a firm based in Manchester, England, of which Mr. Engineer was managing director.

A Neptune Exim spokesman said the company, considering Mr Engineer’s reputation, had sent textile goods worth Rs. 48.78 lakh between May and July, 2000 to Churchill Textile Mills Limited, but no payment was made despite correspondence and personal requests. He said Churchill Mills, Mr. Engineer’s family business, has gone into voluntary liquidation.

The complainant filed the case of cheating saying Mr. Engineer had placed the order for supply of the textile goods despite knowing full well the bad finances of his company.
