ALL SMILES: Class X results declared on Friday showed a marked improvement in all streams.

CHENNAI: They come from different backgrounds and have different dreams, but they have one common reason to celebrate. They topped the State in the Class X Examinations.

Ram Ambigai . R. of St. Ignatius Convent Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai has secured the first rank in the State with a massive total of 496 out 500 in the S.S.L.C. stream.

Ram Ambigai, who aspires to become a software engineer, is evidently excited about her father’s words having come true. Right from the time she was in Class Two, her father Ram Gopal, an employee of the All India Radio, Tirunelveli, kept telling her that she would become the State topper in the S.S.L.C. examination. “Today, our 8-year-old dream has come true,” she says. She did not watch television and relied primarily on the prescribed textbooks rather than guides available in the market.

Looks like most of the toppers anticipated this success, given the kind of hard work they put in. “I wanted to score the maximum mark in each of the five subjects, and the 489 out of 500 has not come as a surprise,” says V. Abhirami of S.S.M. Lakshmiammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, first rank holder in the Matriculation stream.

The younger daughter of doctors N. Vasudevan and V. Guhapriya Vasudevan, Abhirami has scored 98 in Tamil, 94 in English, centum in Mathematics, 99 in Science and 98 in Social Science. “I did not let anything come between me and my aim of topping,” she says. Interestingly, Abhirami, who likes to draw and paint, wants to become an architect.

Jyotsnaa M., a student of the St. Joseph’s Convent and Anglo Indian Girls Higher Secondary School at Coonoor who has a total of 486 has topped State in the Anglo Indian stream.

Jyotsnaa wishes to pursue medicine after Plus Two, following the footsteps of her parents, both doctors. “My teachers and headmistress Sister Leema have been great pillars of strength. My parents encouraged me throughout,” she says.

In the O.S.L.C. stream, K.S. Reehana Thasleem and A.U. Sumaiyya Thasleem topped the State in Arabic with a score of 192. Both are students of U.H. Oriental Arabic Girls Higher Secondary School, Pallapatti.

Arthy.N. of Oriental Higher Secondary School, Thanjavur, topped the State in Sanskrit with a score of 194.
