US tourist taken for a ride

CHENNAI: A 26-year-old American tourist was literally taken for a ride and robbed of her belongings on Saturday.
According to the Teynampet police, the victim, who was identified as Kelly Becker, got into a car at a star hotel on TTK Road and taken for a ride. She was robbed of her belongings in the car. She had come to the hotel for dinner with her husband. Ms.Becker had stayed back, while her husband returned to their room. The woman was robbed of her mobile phone, camera and wallet. Two persons dropped her off at her hotel room on Sunday morning. The couple informed the US Consulate here and lodged a complaint with the police.
Police have registered cases under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
