Trial supply from January

Staff Reporter

RAMANATHAPURAM: Trial supply through the comprehensive drinking water project will begin in January next year, Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar has said.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said that the components of the project were grouped under seven packages except head works. Packages I, II, III, V and head works were being undertaken in Pudukottai and Sivaganga districts. Packages IV, VI and VII were being implemented in Ramanathapuram district. More than 50 percent of the works were completed.

It was proposed to draw 100 MLD of sub surface water from the Cauvery through four deep collector wells, to be dug at Kadiyakurichi and Mutharasanallur in the Cauvery basin. It would be pumped up to Alavayal sump for a distance of 81.65 km and from there it would be gravitated to the proposed sumps up to Rameswaram and Sayalkudi through 749 km of conveying main and branch conveying mains.

From there water would be distributed to the public through a network of existing and proposed service reservoirs and distribution system.
