Eco tourism project in Kolleru on the anvil

ELURU: An eco tourism project with an estimated cost of Rs. 4.47 crores in Kolleru is in the pipeline, according to K.V. Reddy, Director, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department.

Speaking at a programme here on Thursday, he said Kolleru was identified as a special tourism zone and the government was preparing ground in this direction to provide basic infrastructure in the lake as part of the endeavour.

It was proposed to set up a base camp on an extent of six acres at Kalakurru above plus five contour of the lake and resorts on a sprawling 10 acres near Gudivakalanka for accommodation of visiting tourists.

Water towers would be built in all the key points enabling bird watching by visitors, Mr. Reddy explained. He informed that the government had already allotted 80 per cent of the funds earmarked for the project to the district, empowering the Collector as a drawing officer.

The Director stated that the government was also paying attention on provision of resorts at other tourist places in the district such as Buddhist sites at Jilakaragudem and Perubalem beach. He said the government was contemplating appointing a special officer for a study on tourism potential in West Godavari district. He said the government was considering construction of resorts with private partnership at tourist spots.
