Three held for misbehaviour with woman

CHENNAI: The Chetpet police on Tuesday arrested three persons on charges of misbehaving with a woman. The arrested were identified as P.Gandhi (29) of Aminjikarai, B.Vadivel (33) of Chetpet and B.Vasikaran (20) of Ayanavaram.

Police said the victim, working in a private firm, was on her way home on a two-wheeler with her husband on Monday evening. Around 8.30 p.m. when the couple were on the Chetpet Bridge, three persons who came on a two-wheeler allegedly harassed her.

Police said when her husband objected to it, the trio slapped him and attempted to flee. However, the passers-by rounded them up and handed them over to the police.

Cases were registered against them under Sections 341 (wrongfully restraining any person), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (b) (obscene songs) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of IPC and also under Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
