HC refuses to interfere in election issues

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday disposed of three election petitions saying that the High Court or the Supreme Court could not interfere in the conduct of the elections or in election matters.

When the cases came up, government advocate Sharat Chandra submitted that courts did not have the competence or jurisdiction to go into election cases once the election was notified. Moreover, the elections had already concluded.

Disposed of

While Justice N. Kumar disposed of one petition, Justice B.V. Nagaratna disposed of two other petitions with the observations that courts could not go into electoral issues once the process of election was set into motion. If the petitioners had any grievance, they could approach the election tribunal and file election petitions.
