Couple allegedly commits suicide in Najafgarh

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In what appears to be a case of suicide pact, a 40-year-old man and his 35-year-old wife allegedly ended their lives in their house at Najafgarh here on Monday night. In a suicide note, they purportedly urged the police not to harass their relatives.

According to the police, the incident came to light around midnight when the relatives of Satbir found him hanging from the ceiling. His wife Sunita was lying unconscious nearby. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. Enquiries by the police revealed that Satbir was earlier arrested in a case of cheating in which he was sentenced to 18-month imprisonment.

Suicide note

He was released from jail recently. In the suicide note, he requested his brother-in-law to take care of his 13-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.

The police suspect that Satbir’s wife consumed some poisonous substance. “We are waiting for the post-mortem reports to ascertain the exact cause of the deaths,” said a police officer.
