Drive against illegal arms licence holders
Mainpuri (U.P.): At least six persons have been arrested and 83 others booked so far after authorities here launched a drive to verify addresses of arms licence holders, official sources said.
All the booked persons were found to have obtained licences fraudulently by furnishing fake addresses, they said adding a former legislator from Bhongaon and his two nephews were also among the accused.
Authorities swung into action after District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra Shukla ordered police and revenue officers to verify addresses furnished by arms licence holders in the district.
The DM also ordered those who have acquired arms by such illegal means to surrender their arms at their police station.
