Conveying a sense of mystery….

ENTICING WORKS: Divya Rathore’s painted figures have no mouths or eyes.

A week-long exhibition of paintings titled “Enticing Mystery” by Divya Rathore opens at the All-India Fine Arts and Crafts Society gallery on Rafi Marg in the Capital on June 1.

Equipped with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Rajasthan School of Arts, Divya’s paintings are tinged with a haunting sense of mystery, more so because her painted figures do not have eyes and mouths. “My repertoire predominantly consists of works in the female figure, as that is what I can relate most pertinently to. The paintings present more or less a reflection of the self and are also influenced by certain generalised observations,” says Divya. The figures in her paintings appear, at places, ambiguous in form, reflecting a personal sense of uncertainty. The faces too are quite despondent, indicative of deeper doubts and isolation.

The painter’s technique of not painting the eyes and the mouth conveys an inescapable sadness that is made all the more poignant by her unique technique. “My paintings come across on the canvas with a shade of mystery, the fear of isolation that would appeal to the viewer at various subliminal levels,” she says.

Divya has received prestigious awards at the Northern Region Camlin Foundation Exhibition (Professional Category) besides participating in group art shows at various galleries in Jaipur and Gurgaon.
