IOB wins men’s title

Nagercoil: Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai), after losing the first set, bounced back strongly to defeat Southern Railway (Chennai) 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 and win the men’s title in the all-India Invitation volleyball tournament, here on Sunday.

In the play-off third place match, Cochin Port Trust beat Integral Coach Factory (Chennai) 21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22 and bagged a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. ICF was richer by Rs. 7,000.

Assumption College (Chenganacherry) beat Lotus Volleyball Club (Thadagam) 27-25, 25-8, 25-22 in the women’s title match.

Special awards:

Men: Best attacker: Natarajan (IOB); Best setter: Ukra Pandian (IOB); Best all-rounder: Sivarajan (S. Rly.); Best libero: Arunkhan (IOB).

Women: Best attacker: Dhanya (Assumption College); Best setter: Nithya (Lotus VBC); Best all-rounder: Jerenc Antony (Assumption College); Best libero: Saradambiga (Lotus VBC). — Sports Correspondent
