Train and bus services hit hard by Gujjar agitation

Nine trains cancelled and several others diverted

Several buses run by Rajasthan Roadways and DTC are also affected


NEW DELHI: Because of the ongoing agitation by the Gujjar community in Rajasthan and large-scale disturbances in parts of Kota Division of Northern Railway, many railway passengers here in the Capital were inconvenienced on Monday as a total of nine trains were cancelled and several others diverted.

The cancelled trains included the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Mumbai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin August Kranti Express, Dehra Dun-Bandra-Delhi-Nimach Link Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Udaipur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Intrercity Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Indore- Hazrat Nizamuddin Intercity Express and the Amritsar-Mumbai Central-Amritsar Golden Temple Mail. In addition, the Firozpur-Mumbai Central-Firozpur Janata Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Kota Jan Shatabdi Express, Ahmedabad-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gujarat Sampark Kranti and Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bandra Maharashtra Samprak Kranti were also cancelled. Several other trains scheduled to pass through the affected section were diverted to alternative routes.While the New Delhi-Mumbai-Rajdhani Express, Amritsar-Bandra Terminus-Paschim Express and Jammu Tawi-Hapa Super Fast train were diverted to run via Mathura-Agra-Bhopal-Nagda, the Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express and Amritsar-Bandra Terminus Paschim Express were diverted to run via Nagda-Bhopal-Agra-Mathura. The Bandra Terminus-Jammu Tawi Swaraj Express was diverted to run via Bhopal-Agra-Mathura.

Apart from hampering train movement, several buses run by Rajasthan Roadways were also affected. Rajasthan Roadways (Delhi) Manager Traffic Mohan Lal Verma said: “While bus services on the Jaipur and Ajmer route are running as per schedule, about 60 buses plying on the Alwar route have stopped running since May 25. In addition, about 27 buses plying on the Sikar route have also stopped running since May 26.”

Delhi Transport Corporation buses leaving the Inter-State Bus Terminus for Alwar have also been discontinued for the last few days.
