MONSOON IN SUMMER: The scene during the heavy thunderstorm that lashed the Capital on Monday morning. NEW DELHI: Continuing its un-seasonal run, the rain again soaked the Capital on Monday bringing the temperature down to a pleasant 24.5 degrees Celsius and also resulting in incidents of water-logging in several parts of the city. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi control room received 25 complaints of water-logging and six complaints of fallen trees from various parts of the city following the heavy rain on Monday morning. Complaints of water-logging were received from Okhla Phase-I, Bhikaiji Cama Place, Green Park, Sadhna Enclave, Panchsheel, Malviya Nagar, Gali Telian, Tilak Bazar and Uttam Nagar Road. Complaints of fallen trees were reported from Yamuna Vihar, Kapashera, Najafgarh, Malviya Nagar, Subhash Nagar and Rajouri Garden. The Met Department put the rainfall at 36.4 mm and said the unusually wet and pleasant weather was due to an “upper air cyclonic circulation above south-east Rajasthan”. The weatherman has forecast “partly cloudy conditions with possibility of rain or thundershowers” for Wednesday. Flights delayedMost incoming and outgoing flights at Delhi airport were delayed because of heavy rain, strong surface winds and low visibility. Flight operations were disrupted between 8-30 a.m. and 9-30 a.m. due to heavy rain and strong winds. The freak weather had a cascading effect on the flight schedules with most aircraft delayed by 30 minutes to two hours throughout the day. About a dozen flights, including one international flight, were diverted to Jaipur and Lucknow. “Since there was only one runway in use for most part of the day, 15 incoming and outgoing flights were delayed by 30 minutes to one hour,” said a SpiceJet official. An Indian Airlines official said several of their flights were delayed by one to two hours because of Air Traffic Control congestion.
