HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday said he would go to Delhi in June first week and ensure that the Centre issues ordinance on categorisation of Schduelded Castes as recommended by the Usha Mehra Commission. Bound by codeThe Chief Minister gave this assurance to a delegation of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) led by its founder, Manda Krishna Madiga when it met him. Following this assurance, MRPS called off its plan to march to his camp office and further agitation. The MRPS delegation met Dr. Reddy at the camp office after the latter’s return from a campaign in Mahabubnagar. The Chief Minister is stated to have given a patient hearing to the demands of the MRPS leaders. Besides immediate issue of ordinance, the delegation wanted temporary halt to the recruitment for the vacancies reserved for SCs in government service. Dr. Reddy promised to look into the other demand. He reportedly said that since the election code of conduct was in force, no decision could be announced by the Government. Proposed stir called offLater in the evening, the MRPS activists, who had resorted to a ‘sit in’ at Indira Park from Friday night, called off the proposed agitation programme, according to the MRPS spokesperson Bhaskar. Warangal Staff reporter adds: Meanwhile, in Cheriyal in Warangal district, the Chief Minister while trying to pacify sloganeering MRPS activists at the election meeting on Sunday said he would try to ensure that Madiga students do not forego their chances in education and employment. Addressing an impressive public meeting, the Chief Minister said his government was striving to do justice to every section of the society. “We have been delivering all the promises we made in the past and also trying to do more than promised. Every family in rural areas is getting benefit under at least three welfare schemes, pensions, housing, Rs 2 a kg rice and others, he said.
