Coimbatore: The Kongu Velala Gounder Peravai has urged the government to consider allocation of unfilled seats in colleges to students from backward class communities. In a statement, district president K. Devaraj said that the BCs were entitled to a reservation of 23 per cent as per the 2001 census. Referring to the statement by the Higher Education Secretary that more than 70,000 seats remained vacant during 2007, he said that BC students continued to struggle for seats in the reserved category as they could not afford to stake claim for management quota seats.
