KOCHI: The growing opportunities in the job market have stepped up the demand for job-oriented courses offered by colleges in Ernakulam district. Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam offers courses in B.Sc. instrumentation and B.Sc. environmental science. Thirty seats each are available in these programmes. Popular courses at St. Teresa’s College include B.A. in communicative English, French and Bharatanatyam. The college also offers a degree programme in computer applications. There are 30 seats each available for degree courses in communicative English and computer applications. Sacred Heart College, Thevara, offers four job-oriented degree courses. They include B.Sc. in computer applications and industrial chemistry. The college also offers a B.A. programme in copy editing under the self-financing scheme. The number of seats available for each programme is 30. St. Albert’s College offers B.Sc. programmes in industrial fish and fisheries, vocational chemistry and aquaculture. The intake for the industrial fish and fisheries course is 25 while the number of seats available for vocational chemistry is 24. There are 30 seats available for the aquaculture course. Union Christian College at Aluva offers B.Sc. courses in biotechnology, computer maintenance and electronics and computer science. The sanctioned intake for biotechnology and computer maintenance and electronics courses is 30. The number of seats available for computer science course is 24. Bharata Mata College, Trikkakara, offers four career-oriented courses for students. Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery, offers a degree course in social work. The three-year course is divided into six semesters. The number of seats available is 30. The Cochin College offers a career-oriented B.Sc. programme in botany with plant biotechnology as a vocational subject. St. Xavier’s College for Women at Aluva offers Bachelor programmes in business administration, computer applications and B. Com with computer applications.
