Shivlal Yadav files nominations seeking re-election

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: N. Shivlal Yadav, secretary of Hyderabad Cricket Association, filed his nominations seeking re-election for another term along with most of his office-bearers including D. S. Chalapathi, incumbent joint-secretary, as the filing of nominations came to a close for the elections scheduled for June 8.

This has not come as a surprise considering there has been very strong opposition to Shivlal relinquishing the post as a majority in the HCA felt that he should continue for another term to complete the unfinished works at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal). The other office-bearers who filed their nominations include M. V. Sridhar for vice-presidentship.

It may be recalled here that Shivlal was on record to state that there would be no elections and only selections and the only possible threat to the ruling group – former Test cricketer Arshad Ayub - too joined it’s ranks ostensibly to ensure that the sport is given the facelift and promoted in the right spirit.

In a related development, former secretary P. R. Man Singh was not among those who filed the nominations. The number of nominations for each post is as follows: Joint secretary – 5; Treasurer – 3; For three vice-presidents – 14; Secretary – 2; For six executive committee member posts in A-Division – 22; for two EC member posts in B-Division – 9; for 2 posts in C-Division – 5; for two posts in D-Division – 3.

It is clearly hinted that these nominations, mostly dummy, are only a formality as all efforts are on to ensure unanimous elections and contests to be avoided at any cost and that all the big guns would sit across and sort out who should which post before the last date of withdrawal of nominations on May 31. For the record, the tenure of the incumbent president, State Minister G. Vinod, also comes to an end shortly and will have to be ratified if he were to be given another term, by the newly-elected general body next month.
