K. Narayana writes to Chief Minister ‘Government not taking remedial steps’
K. Narayana HYDERABAD: The CPI State Council on Saturday called upon the government to implement protected water supply schemes and to strengthen PHCs in tribal areas to prevent spread of viral fevers among the residents. K. Narayana, party secretary, in a letter to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy sought supply of mosquito nets to tribals (within April and May) so as to prevent their deaths. He warned that the party would strongly react to the prevailing situation in tribal areas if the government failed to extend these minimum facilities. The CPI leader recalled that during a recent ‘padayatra’ against bauxite mining in the Chintapalli area, he had come across at least two tribals sick with viral fevers in every house. He had also come to know of deaths of girijans in forest areas on account of the fever. They had been drinking contaminated water. This has been happening every year in June-July. However, this year the fever had struck early. He charged the government with not taking timely action in spite of warning by the party, seeking remedial steps in advance.
